Peter Close - Medium
Peter Close - Medium

biography

Peter was born and spent his youth in Yorkshire, England. He was the eldest of a family of six children, one of whom was Cricket International Brian Close.

After spending two years of National Service in the R.A.F. just after World War II he left home and went to reside in London after joining the Metropolitan Police there. He was not then aware of his mediumistic abilities and was rather agnostic in regard to his belief system. Many years after joining the Force, Peter reached a crucial time in his life when he came near to breakdown and found it hard to concentrate on his work etc. Soon after he met with three people in a bar and befriended them, meeting up with them on several occasions. One day, whilst in Hyde Park, it began to rain and the group got in a taxi and drove to a street nearby named Belgrave Square. Peter was unaware of where they were going but when he read 'Spiritualist Association of Great Britain' on the door of the building alarm set in and at first he refused to go into the building. However, because of the rain and no transport he agreed to enter with the intention of ridiculing the whole thing.

In a small room, with a stage at the end, Peter saw for the first time a Medium demonstrating her abilities to an audience of about thirty people. Feeling there was safety in numbers and he was sure she would go to 'regulars' he relaxed. However, half way through the meeting she approached him and began to describe his paternal Grandfather and then proceeded to graphically describe a motorcycle accident that he had been involved in some years previously. Peter obviously became rather tense about these disclosures and the Medium told him she was leaving him because he was resisting and fighting her. Needless to say this gave him much to think about.

He tried to pass it off as 'mind reading' to his new found friends, more as a 'face saving' exercise than anything else. He arranged to meet them at the same evening in the usual bar and although after arriving he stayed all the opening hours they did not appear. Many repeated visits had the same result and to this day he has never seen them again. Due to the reading, Peter's curiosity was aroused and he constantly went to other meetings and no matter how many people attended he was always picked out as a recipient. Many messages later he was told by a Medium friend that he should be developing his own abilities of which he was unaware. However, upon checking with his mother he was told he had shown such abilities as a child and he had constantly spoken to his parents of his paternal Grandmother (who died before he was born) giving them advice from her. His Mother, who was very religiously minded at the time thought the 'Devil' was in possession and reprimanded him and to her satisfaction it apparently disappeared.

Peter Close

Peter began to sit in development classes and at first his new belief seemed to run contrary to his work as a policeman. However he came to terms with this and when he subsequently began to work as a Medium he ran it along side his police work. He provoked interest with some fellow members of the force but also 'ran foul' of others so he had to 'walk on tip-toes' at times.

When he retired, after 32 years of service, he took up his new profession as a full-time occupation and soon found demand for his services in many countries besides the U.K. He has now worked on four continents and traveled many thousands of miles for his work. He has appeared on many T.V. and radio shows both in the U.K. and U.S.A.

A few years ago Peter fell in love with Thailand after several visits and bought a home there with the intention of someday retiring to it. The 'pull' of his profession however is strong, and although he lives in semi-retirement for six months of the year, he still continues working for the remainder. Peter's integrity is high possibly due to his police background and his early skepticism. Even today he is skeptical about some 'New Age' beliefs but is also proud of his now much more 'open-mind'.
